What is a natural stone when it comes to countertops?

When discussing countertops, you have a few options, natural stone, manmade like quartz, and wood.

Natural stones like Granite and Marble are mined from solid rock and cut into slabs and polished to a smooth shine. Natural stone countertops are very resilient and can survive abrasion, fire and heat, and staining.

Though you have to take care of natural stone and finish/reseal it every few years for best results.

What's the difference between quartz and stone?

The construction of man-made quartz countertops uses resin and other materials to fuse the “stone” together. The benefit of quartz or other man-made “stones” is that unlike natural stone, they don’t need to be sealed or refinished as natural stones do.

Is there a perfect stone for countertops?

It really comes down to taste, though if your countertops are going to see a lot of use, granite might be your best option, though most stones like soapstone or marble can stand the test of time if you take care of them.

Just enjoy the natural beauty of the stone slab you choose and use what you find fits your project!

How do you clean natural stone?

The easiest way to clean your stone counter tops is with just a drop or two of neutral dishwasher soap (we like Dial). You can find our cleaning care and guidelines here

Is rubbing alcohol safe on natural stone?

A natural stone product is very porous, but the sealant used to finish the stone slabs can be eroded quickly and harm the stone’s durability by using harsh cleaning products. Avoid cleaners that aren’t formulated for your countertop material.

Can you use bleach on natural stone?

Again avoiding corrosive chemicals will keep your stone sealed and beautiful for years to come.
