Laminate Cabinets

Cabinets / Laminate

Laminate cabinets is a general term for several types of cabinets made from laminate materials. Durable, easy to clean and stylish, laminate cabinets are a great option for apartments, residential kitchens and multi-family projects.

Metropolitan Cabinets offers a wide selection of laminate colors and patterns to choose from, fabricated locally right at our Norwood, MA facility. Below are the different laminate door options we offer.

(HPL) High Pressure Laminate Cabinets

High Pressure Laminate Cabinets, also referred to as HPL, are created by applying laminate material to a composite core with high levels of pressure to seal and secure the bond between the core and the laminate material. Laminate doors and drawer fronts have a band around the edge to conceal and protect the composite core. Typically the core is made of MDF or Particleboard. Laminate is available in a wide variety of colors, sheens, textures, and designs; including solids, wood grains, abstract designs, and textures.

HPL cabinets are easy to clean and when cared for properly, are long lasting.

(TFL) Thermally Fused Laminate / Melamine Cabinets

Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL), also known as melamine, panels are produced by fusing a resin-based sheet of decorative paper directly to a particleboard core. A pressure and heating process activates the resin-based sheet and seals the core, creating an extremely strong material. TFL is available in a variety of finishes and textures, and is a great material for any residential space or multi-family project.

Laminate Cabinets are Cost Effective

Laminate cabinets offer a cost-effective solution for homeowners and designers looking to balance budget constraints with aesthetic appeal and durability. When compared to other cabinet materials like solid wood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), or thermofoil, laminate emerges as a financially prudent choice without compromising on style and functionality.

Laminate’s cost-effectiveness is further underscored by its durability and low maintenance requirements. Unlike solid wood, which may require refinishing and is susceptible to warping in humid conditions, laminate maintains its shape and appearance without extensive upkeep. This aspect of laminate reduces long-term maintenance costs, adding to its overall cost-effectiveness.

Installation Considerations for Laminate Cabinets

When installing laminate cabinets, several key factors ensure a successful and lasting fit. Understanding these considerations is crucial for a seamless integration into any space, be it a kitchen, bathroom, or multi-family project.

Key Installation Factors

Weight and Support: Laminate cabinets, especially those with high-pressure laminate (HPL), can be heavier than traditional wood cabinets. It’s essential to ensure that the walls and supports are robust enough to handle the weight.

Precision and Accuracy: Accurate measurements and meticulous installation are vital. This precision ensures that the cabinets align perfectly with the design and functional requirements of the space.

Post-Installation Care: After installation, proper maintenance is key to preserving the appearance and longevity of laminate cabinets. Simple care routines can significantly extend their lifespan.

At Metropolitan Cabinets we pride ourselves on our ability to provide customized solutions and post-installation support, ensuring customer satisfaction and the enduring beauty of our installations.

What Spaces are Laminate Cabinets Good For?

Laminate cabinets have a sturdy, rigid structure that is easy to maintain. They are also fire resistant and can be used in a variety of environments, including in residential spaces for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and book shelves. In multi-family units, laminate withstands years of tenants changing over. The non-porous capabilities also make them a great options for medical exam rooms, dental offices and lab spaces. Laminate cabinets are made for use in high-traffic areas.
