You may have heard, but a lot of the quartz companies are about to have a price increase. This is due to a recent development; the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) have been reviewing a petition sent to them and are currently in the process of determining duties on Chinese quartz. In their investigations they found that Chinese quartz is being subsidized and dumped into the U.S. market at unfair market prices.

The DOC have already and will continue to apply duties or tariffs to Chinese quartz imports in the coming weeks and months. There was a 44 ¼% price increase the anti-dumping and tariff. This will translate to higher prices on Chinese quartz. Some of these brands will keep the same price list till 2019 and then apply the price increase.

So what does this mean for the consumer? Quartz countertops will become more expensive. Many popular brands and colors will go up in price, so it’s important to check with your fabricator on which brands and colors will be less effected and therefore less expensive.
